Simply put: we collect the minimum needed, and we don't sell your data or track you.

When you rate a work, add it to your watchlist, mark it as watched, or hide a suggestion with the “Not interested” button, your browser saves these choices in its local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent to Mashhad, and you can clear them from the page My account.
Your watchlist and watched works are visible to you and to friends whose friendship you've accepted. For each list you create, you choose: private, friends, or anyone with the link. If you publish a review of a work, everyone can see with it: your display name, the review text, your rating of that work, and whether you've marked it as watched. Your email is never shown. You can edit or delete your review at any time. Your replies to reviews and comments on articles are also public.
Every account has a username that you choose or that we generate for you automatically, and a public page others can reach from your name and picture and from search. It shows your picture, display name and bio, your join date, how many works you've watched, rated and reviewed, your badges, how many people liked and endorsed you, and your reviews. Your watchlist and the details of what you've watched are visible only to friends whose friendship you've accepted. Your email, mobile number and date of birth don't appear on the page or in search.
Your topics and replies in the Majlis are public, and visitors can see them with your display name and picture, your rank if you're on the team, and your signature and topic image if you add them. Topic text is automatically checked against a word list when published and edited, to alert the moderation team, and this check does not prevent publishing. The team can see your topic before and after an edit, and may edit or delete it if it violates the terms. Private messages are not checked against this list.
You can message friends who have accepted your friendship. Messages are visible to both sides of the conversation, and the moderation team sees in its panel only a message reported by its recipient, in order to review the report. Messages are stored in our database and are not end-to-end encrypted, so don't write passwords or sensitive data in them. Whoever administers the database may access them if needed to fix a technical problem or carry out a legal request. When you delete your message its text is erased, unless it has been reported, in which case it stays as it is for review. Your messages are deleted with your account when you delete it.
During a conversation, the other person can see when you are typing and when you have read their message.
We use only necessary cookies: login session cookies so you aren't asked for your password on every page, and a cookie that remembers your language if you choose one. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. On your first visit we read your device's language as your browser sends it, to open the English version if that is its language, and we don't store it.
On login and sign-up forms we use Cloudflare Turnstile to confirm that the person filling in the form is human. The service sees technical information about your browser for this purpose only.
These companies process data only to run the service, under their own agreements and policies.
These services operate outside Saudi Arabia: the database is in Ireland, the site's servers are in the United States with a global network to speed up browsing, and the other services may process data in other countries. Your data is therefore transferred outside the Kingdom to run the site.
We keep your account data as long as your account exists, and delete it when the account is deleted. It may remain in an earlier backup until that backup is replaced, and what we mention under “Your rights” remains in the moderation log.
“Watch on” links and source links take you to other sites such as streaming platforms, each with its own privacy policy. When you share a work through WhatsApp, X or your device's share menu, the share passes to that service and is subject to its policy.
Like any website, our hosting provider may keep temporary technical logs (such as network address, browser type and time of visit) for security and to run the service. We do not use these logs to identify you.
Mashhad's content is information about artistic works with a parents' guide. Accounts are not intended for anyone under 13, and if we learn of an account belonging to a child under this age, we delete it.
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page before the change. The last updated date is at the top of the page.
