About Mashhad
An Arabic guide to films, series, plays and the people who make them, with documented information and a parents' guide.
The idea behind Mashhad
Most film and TV databases are written in another language, and the Arabic titles in them are incomplete or inaccurately translated. Mashhad starts from the opposite end: a guide to Arabic works only, with complete information in Arabic.
Every work on Mashhad has: its Arabic and original title, a spoiler-free story, the cast and their roles, the director and writer, the number of episodes or running time, where to watch it, and a parents' guide showing the age rating and any sensitive content.
How we document information
- At least two sources for every work. We rely on one detailed primary source and verify the information against a second, independent source.
- Disputed information is left out. If two sources disagree on a detail, we don't publish it until the correct version is confirmed. That is why you may find an empty field, and this is intentional.
- No invented data. We don't publish undocumented ratings, viewing figures or names. A section without enough data stays empty.
- Sources are visible. Every work and artist page links to the sources its information came from.
- Stories in our own words. We write each work's summary ourselves, without revealing its plot.
Parents' guide
The guide shows the appropriate age for each work and its level of violence, disturbing scenes, language and sensitive themes. If a work has an official rating from a censorship authority, we show it and name the authority. If there is no official rating, we show a “Mashhad estimate” based on published episode summaries, and state clearly that it is not an official rating. If there isn't enough information for an estimate, the guide stays empty.
How we choose works
We start with Arabic works from 2020 onward and gradually add older works and classics. We add a work only once its essential data is complete, because for us quality comes before quantity. “Mashhad Picks” are chosen by the editorial team, and each pick has a documented reason written beneath it.
Accounts and reviews
You can browse all of Mashhad without an account. If you create one, your ratings and lists are saved to it and available from any device, you can write reviews, and you get a public page with your badges if you choose a username. The “Mashhad rating” on each work is the average of user ratings, shown with the number of people who rated it.
Awards
We document on the awards page the winners of the Joy Awards, from published sources, and link them to the pages of their works and artists on Mashhad.
Images
Posters and stills belong to their owners, including production companies, channels and platforms. We display them only to identify the work, and we name their source on each work's page. If you hold the rights to an image and want it removed or its source changed, Contact us.
Promoted content
If we show a promotional space on the site, it always carries the word “Promoted”. Promotion does not affect the information, the parents' guide or our editorial picks.
